Welcome to the Lyme Crushers team page for the 9th Annual FinishLyme Run/Walk!

On Sunday, May 19th my team will be walking the 5K untimed to help raise money to find a cure for Lyme disease which has impacted my life greatly. 329,000+ people are diagnosed with Lyme in the U.S. each year, more people than those diagnosed hepatitis C, HIV, colon cancer, and breast cancer, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Per a recent study, it is estimated by 2020, 2 million Americans may suffer from post-lyme treatment Lyme disease (chronic Lyme).

I've suffered from Lyme for 10+ years, but was diagnosed about a year ago due to inaccurate testing (only 1 in 10 cases are officially reported because criteria and testing accuracy vary greatly). Due to testing inaccuracy, patients go undiagnosed far too long, causing chronic disabilities, and, there is no cure for late-stage Lyme, contrary to what many people believe.

All proceeds for the benefit go to NatCapLyme, an organization I have become involved with as a volunteer that’s near and dear to my heart, due to my personal struggle with the disease. NatCapLyme is a 100% volunteer run non-profit that not only does GREAT things to fight Lyme, but has introduced me to GREAT people who have helped support me in my fight with Lyme. It means so much to me to help support this incredible organization dedicated to improving the lives of those suffering from Lyme and other tick-borne illnesses by: providing support, information to educate and empower patients, families, healthcare workers, and the community, educating on prevention, creating awareness, passing on legislation, funding research and much more.
