2018 is the DC Race4Respect™ FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY!! 
Saturday, June 2, 2018
Race4Respect™
 is the only 5K and 1K Kids Dash in the nation’s capital dedicated to Down Syndrome Awareness.  The 5K is a UASTF timed race on the most coveted course in Washington, DC. Enjoy an inspiring atmosphere with fantastic views of the White House, The Capitol, Washington Monument among many other DC treasures. Strollers, wheel chairs and walkers are welcome; Race4Respect™ is a family friendly event!  Check out the course map HERE.

5 YEAR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION!!

Devenio, Inc. is please to announce that we are welcoming Cristina, Elena, Megan, Rachel, Sean and Steven from A&E's Emmy Award Winning Reality Show, Born This Wayto the 2018 Race4Respect™!  The six cast members will be celebrating Down Syndrome Awareness with us on Pennsylvania Ave. for our 5 Year Anniversary celebration on June 2nd!  

In addition, we will offer a celebratory brunch with the cast members immediately following the race at Elephant & Castle (directly behind the finish line).  Tickets can be purchased to sit on the patio with the cast, all funds directly support the R4R special education grants!  

Each winning ticket package includes: brunch plus two (2) drink tickets and a R4R intention bracelet...not to mention individual photo opportunities with the 
Born This Way cast members!!

  • Thurs. 5/31 3-7pm @ Sweetbay Yoga (5456 Westbard Ave, Bethesda, MD 20816)

  • Fri. 6/1  12-5pm @ Potomac River Running Store in DC (919 F St NW, Washington, DC 20004)

  • Sat. 6/2 7-8:30am
    Onsite at race. 
    *This will close promptly at 8:30pm to ensure race starts on time!

8:45 am - Pre-race warm up
8:55 am - Call to starting line
8:57 am - National Anthem
9:00 am - 5K Race begins
9:45 am - 1K Kids Dash Begins
10:00 am - Awards
10:10 am - Final Remarks
10:30am - Brunch Begins
10: 50 am - All runners moved to sidewalks
11: 00 am - All runners must be OFF race course. Streets are re-opened.

1:30 pm - Brunch Ends 

VIRTUAL RACE!
Be a part of the Born This Way in DC no matter where you live! People from ACROSS THE COUNTRY will be running in honor of their connection to Down syndrome with family, friends, co-workers, classmates or even solo as part of the 2018 Race4Respect™!

  • Virtual runners will receive a race t-shirt, medal and bib!  
  • Virtual Regsitrants are guaranteed delivery by June 2nd if registered by 5/20/2018!
  • If registered after May 20, an attempt will be made to mail bibs, shirt and medal to you prior to June 2, but it can no longer be guaranteed. 

 

R4R TeamUp School Challenge:
Race4Respect™ is committed to serving individuals with Down syndrome by supporting their entire community.  The TeamUp School Challenge awards special education grants to school teams.  In 2017, R4R awarded three grants to schools who have implemented programs and services to support individuals with Down syndrome and other disabilities within their schools to achieve a more inclusive environment.

Arrives at 7:30 am. Race Marshal Lead Arrives at 7:30 am at the Water Stop located at the intersection of 3rd and Pennsylvania Ave. Meet with 16 volunteer race course marshals and prepare for briefing by race course staff. Staff will provide volunteer t-shirts, safety vests, course map, emergency call list and instructions. Staff will direct each marshal to his/her respective post. Volunteers will walk to their assigned post. Lead coordinates via radio with the staff to ensure that all posts are covered.
Arrives at 7:15 am. Oversee crew of 6-8 volunteers. Assembles crew at the Volunteer Tent and escorts half to the food and water distribution tent and the other half to the finisher medal distribution area at the finish line. The food and water team prepares the product for distribution to the runners as they cross the finish line and re-enter the staging area on Pennsylvania Avenue in front of Freedom Plaza. The finisher medal team assembles in the finisher chute where they can greet the runners just after they cross the finish line. Finisher medals are unboxed and each volunteer takes a supply to hand out to each runner. After the final runner crosses the finish line the team re-boxes all remaining finisher medals and delivers them to TBD. After the final runners are served food and water the volunteers re-box all remaining product for pick up and removal from the site.
Arrives at 8:00 am. Meet water stop crew at the intersection of 3rd St. and Pennsylvania Avenue NW. Opens boxes of water and cups. Pre-fills cups with water and "stage" cups on top of 5-6 tables ready for hand off to runners. Note that the water station will service BOTH outbound and inbound runners. Moves empty boxes and water bottles to the curb on an ongoing basis as depleted throughout the event with the goal of having all equipment and supplies on the sidewalk as soon as the final runner passes. Re-box and consolidate all water bottles before leaving the water stop area. Oversee crew of 8-10 volunteers.

we need approximately six (6) volunteers to assist with hanging NO PARKING SIGNS on the race route. This will be done from 7pm-8/8:30pm. Meet at corner of 13th & Pennsylvania Ave., NW in front of CVS
11:45am-2:45pm at PRR, 919 F Street, NW, Washington, DC.
2:30pm-5pm at PRR, 919 F Street, NW, Washington, DC.
