2018 Loudoun Lyme 5k/10k & 1k Fun Run

Brief Description
In 2009, Loudoun County led the Northern Virginia region in reported Lyme disease cases.  According to the CDC, the United States has 38,000 new cases of Lyme each year.  However, the disease is difficult to diagnose and the actual figure may be 10 times as great.

 

The Annual Loudoun Lyme 5K/10K/1K will drive awareness and raise money to help find a cure for Lyme disease - the number one tick-borne illness in the United States.  The Loudoun Lyme 5K/10K/1K, will also feature children’s activities as well as an information fair to educate the public about Lyme disease, its causes, symptoms and treatments.

*Virtual 5K/10K/1K Race:

Running Loudoun Lyme virtually was created for those who have a passion about raising money for NatCapLyme but may not be able to physically join in on the fun at Brambleton Town Center on May 6th . The Virtual race is open to residents of the following states only: Delaware, Iowa, Idaho, Indiana, Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and the District of Columbia. 

 

 

How does it work?

Run/Walk at any location you want. You can use the treadmill, run outside, your own course, another race, or get your running group together. You can run the event any day before the race or on race day! 

 

What do I receive as a virtual participant?

Race event guide

Race medal or t-shirt

Printable race bib

 

When are medals and event guide mailed out?

Your race swag of an event medal or t-shirt, and event guide will be mailed out the week of May 16th to the address provided when you registered.

 

Do I need to pay for shipping?

Price includes shipping of race event guide and race medal or t-shirts inside the US.

Note: Those participating virtually are not eligible for awards or door prizes being offered at the Loudoun Lyme Race event on May 6. No refunds will be offered.

Team Challenge
Make it more fun! Form a team to represent a family, company or a group of friends and compete against other teams! Register individuals as a team separately and list the team name when asked. Team name must be exactly the same for each team member. Teams consist of at least 4 & must include at least 1 female and 1 male. Top 4 finishers’ times will be combined to determine the team's time. Top 3 overall teams for the 10k and 5k will win and receive an award.

5K Course
3.1 mile certified course will start and finish at Brambleton Town Center and take you through the neighborhood streets of Brambleton. 5K course will be open for 60 min.

10K Course

6.2 mile certified course will start and finish at Brambleton Town Center and take you through the neighborhood streets of Brambleton. 10K course will be open for 90 min.

 

1K Course
.65 distance will start and finish at Brambleton Town Center and take you through the neighboring streets of Brambleton Town Center.

Post-Race Activities: Please be sure to join us after the race for prizes, Lyme merchandise to purchase, sponsor displays, and MORE! 

All registered runners will qualify for a chance to win a Sony 60 inch 2160p Smart 4K Ultra HD TV! Must be present to win, drawing takes place race day at 10 AM from the finish line! 

Awards

Awards will be awarded to the overall male and overall female, second place overall male and second place overall female and to the top two male and female finishers in the following age groups for both the 5K and 10K 12 and under, 13–18, 19–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69, and 70+

Race Beneficiary
The National Capital Lyme Disease Association is committed to helping patients diagnosed with tick-borne infections through education, support, and review of public policies concerning these diseases. NatCapLyme encourages individuals to advocate for themselves in their goal to regain their health.

The organization offers regular patient support group meetings throughout Virginia, al well as information, speakers, and news updates on legislative and scientific developments. NatCapLyme educates government policy makers and legislators on Lyme & tick-borne diseases and raises funds to support Lyme research.
