2020 Virtual Navy Mile

Register for 2020 Virtual Navy Mile

Registration will close on Thursday, Oct. 8th, at 5 PM.  Thank you to all our supporters this year, and we look forward to seeing you in 2021!

Thank you for your interest in the Virtual Navy Mile!  Due to an overwhelming response, we have run out of 2020 t-shirts.  New registrants will receive classic Navy Mile t-shirts by Under Armour, and sizes are not guaranteed.  Please note that at this point, your race packet may not arrive until after the race period ends on Oct. 13th.  You may still run your race, record your time, post pictures, and be eligible for raffles before your packet arrives.

The 6th Annual Navy Mile is going virtual in 2020!

During these uncertain times, the National Capital Council of the Navy League (NCCNL) is committed to providing our annual celebration of America’s Sea Services while ensuring the health and safety of all participants.  With that in mind, the Navy Mile will be a virtual race this year.

Run or walk anytime between October 1 – 13 at the location of your choice!  Choose the classic mile, or, new this year, complete a 5K if you prefer a longer distance.  Or if you’re up to an even greater challenge, chose the CPO “Chuck Heavy” Keating challenge – a series of 1-mile runs, push-ups, and squats (more information below).  After completing your race, record your results through the registration site (instructions below).

The top 10 finishers in each age group will be entered into a raffle for Potomac River Running gift certificates.

There will also be weekly raffles for all registrants.  Enter early to increase your chances of winning!

Also new this year – enter the “Salty Dog” photo contest!  Submit a photo of your dog in sailor attire for a chance to win prizes.  The top 5 winners will receive gift certificates for their pets. Sign up for the The "Salty Dog" Photo contest within the registration process for $10. Information on submitting photos will be sent out to those who enter closer to the date of the event.

Though we can’t gather together as in past years, the 6th Annual Navy Mile will continue to:

-Celebrate the Nation’s Sea Services and highlight the United States Navy’s birthday month

-Honor our fallen Sea Services heroes.  The 6th Annual Navy Mile is dedicated to the memories of CPO SEAL Charles Keating IV, SCPO Shannon Kent, PO1 SEAL Patrick Feeks, and CDR Willie McCool.

-Promote family and community fitness (even more important in these times of restricted activity)

-Raise funds for NCCNL sponsored Sea Cadet programs, the Navy Safe Harbor Foundation, and the C4 Foundation

1 Mile/5K: $25
1 Mile/5K Paralympic & Wounded Warrior: $20
1Mile/5K Active Military & Reserve: $20

SWAG:  Each participant will receive a commemorative race shirt, custom bib and finisher medal.  Register by Sept. 13th to ensure t-shirt availability.

All packets will be shipped, starting Thursday, September 24.  Packets will continue to be shipped through October 13. On-line registration will close on Thursday, October 8 at 5;00 pm.

The "Chuck Heavy Challenge" is dedicated to all our Nation's fallen Service Men and Women. This event was established in honor of US Navy Chief Petty Officer Charles Keating IV, a talented high school and collegiate miler, who was killed battling ISIS fighters in Iraq on May 3, 2016. The challenge has been embraced as the Navy's Special Forces "Workout of the Day".  Half of the entry proceeds for the Chuck Heavy Challenge will be donated to the C4 Foundation which provides support and resources for active duty Navy SEALS and their families.  The challenge consists of the following:  1-mile run, 100 push-ups, 1-mile run, 100 air squats, 1-mile run.

Participants who complete all 5 steps of the "Chuck Heavy Challenge" consecutively and record their total time.
