Hopecam is going VIRTUAL! Due to the spread of COVID-19 and in order to keep our community and most vulnerable population safe we have decided to make the Hopecam 20th Annual 5K Run/Walk a Virtual Event. Participants will be able to complete their 5K anytime between Friday October 9 through Sunday, October 18, 2020.  If you have registered for the 5K already, your registration will automatically be moved to the virtual event.  If you are unable to participant and would like a refund for your registration, please contact brett@hopecam.org 

This year, we will again have corporate team competitions with awards for the largest team and the team that raises the most money. If your company would like to start a corporate team please contact Brett Fox at brett@hopecam.org adn 571-313-1200

15,280 children will be diagnosed with cancer this year. Nearly every one of these children will have to be isolated from their friends and unable to attend school as a result of their treatment. Hopecam, a 501 (c)3 organization, virtually connects pediatric cancer patients with their classmates. Through Hopecam-provided technology and Internet access, we help reduce the loneliness and social isolation that kids feel as they undergo treatment; lift the spirits of kids and their families during what can be a long and daunting time; and enable homebound students to see and talk with their teachers and friends, keep up with in-class programming and education and/or participate in extracurricular clubs and social groups. 

By keeping kids in cancer treatment connected and engaged wiht their social circles, Hopecam promotes healing and boosts mental health by defeating social isolation. Research shows that children who felt more supported from their classmates during treatment were "less depressed, less anxious and had higher self-esteem" than children who did not feel supported by classmates (Suzuki and Kato, 2003), and Hopecam was founded in 2003 on that very premise. We have connected more than 2,100 pediatric cancer patients with 40,000 classmates in 47 states and abroad, with 71% of assisted students attending Title 1 schools. Thanks to our donors and supporters, Hopecam covers 100% of the technological costs associated with connecting homebound students with their schools.
