About Hopecam:
Hopecam's mission is to overcome the social isolation experienced by children diagnosed with cancer through the use of tablets, laptops, and internet technologies to connect the child with his or her school, doctors and support system. Every time a child is diagnosed with cancer and isolated from friends, their mental health is at risk. Hopecam can change that trajectory by virtually connecting kids with classmates, at no cost to schools or families. Hopecam helps kids feel more supported and less depressed through the power of connection.

Each year, close to 16,000 children in the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer and undergo treatments that dramatically limit their ability to go to school. On average, Hopecam children miss between 136 and 180 days of school.  Among the first side-effects is isolation from their classmates.  Hopecam gives each child a tablet computer, Internet access if the family is without, and then works with the child's school, providing them with needed equipment and support.  71% of our students attend Title 1 schools and over 50% live in homes that cannot afford internet access – we provide all equipment at no charge to the family or school. Hopecam helps to bridge the digital divide for not just the child, but for all family members during this difficult time.
