Register for 2021 Feed Fairfax 5K

With Fairfax County being one of the wealthiest counties in our nation, it’s surprising to hear that there are a significant number of children who do not have enough food to eat on a regular basis. In 2019, 23,000 children experienced food insecurity. Now, because of COVID-19, that number has doubled, leaving 1 in every 6 kids in Fairfax County suffering from food insecurity.

The Feed Fairfax 5K on June 5th, 2021 is a fun 3.1 mile road race through the Greenbriar neighborhood in Fairfax. The race is organized with community partners to raise money and provide food for kids in Fairfax County suffering from food insecurity.

What makes this race incredibly unique is that after the race, all participants and volunteers will have the opportunity to assemble Power-Packs for elementary school children within our community.

Many children rely on free and reduced-price meals at school for food. A Power-Pack, which contains seven meals, helps to alleviate hunger for local children in need over the weekend when not in school. All of the Power-Packs assembled at the finish line will be distributed to local schools through Food for Others. Feeding over 2,600 families each week, Food for Others is one of the largest distributors of free groceries in Northern Virginia.

While this race is the first for Fairfax County, it has been successfully implemented in other cities, including Annapolis, Maryland. In its final year, we had over 600 runners, walkers, and volunteers participate in the day, and we packed over 70,000 meals to feed hungry kids.
